Get Well, Quicker with the Da Vinci Surgical System
In 2021, Tri-State Memorial Hospital performed approximately 3,500 outpatient surgeries. The surgical department has been fortunate to have Mako SmartRobotics™ technology available and we are now excited to announce the addition of the Da Vinci Surgical System. Our Tri-State surgeons can perform a variety of procedures robotically using this new advanced state-of-the-art robot. The Da Vinci is designed to enhance our skilled surgeon’s capabilities by overcoming the limitations of both traditional open surgery and conventional minimally invasive surgery. It allows for greater operational precision by extending the functionality of the surgeons eyes and hands, and expands their potential to heal without constraints.
From gallbladder and acid reflux surgeries to hernias and prostatectomies, the precision of the Da Vinci robot means that you will have less pain, smaller scars, and a quicker recovery time than you would with open surgery. Our technology, as well as our approach to treatment, is tailored to the specific needs of each individual patient. We offer the greatest level of comfort and minimally invasive techniques to get our patients back to normal daily activities. “We have a unique community of hard-working people. We want people to come in, have their surgery, and get back to what they need and want to do; get back to their farms and their jobs, their families, back to enjoying the river,” says Tri-State’s Dr. Eric L. Thomas, Robotic Surgery Specialist, who championed the addition of the Da Vinci robot. “If you tell a patient they can’t go back to work for 6 to 8 weeks, it’s very different when you can tell them they can go back in a day or two,” he continues.
Our surgeons who operate with robotic assistance have additional training and experience in using robotic technology to perform surgery so you can expect the best possible outcome. Dr. Thomas brings over 15 years of surgery experience, with five years specializing in robotics, and he started one of the nation’s first integrated robotics rotations for surgical residents in Phoenix, Arizona. Dr. Thomas has performed over 1,100 Da Vinci procedures, and he is excited to begin using this new tool at Tri-State. “Tri-State Surgery has gone from one surgeon who has more knowledge than most surgeons I’ve come across, to three surgeons with the ability to fully serve the community. Together, the three of us will be able to grow the program and completely serve the valley, which will keep patients here for their healthcare so they won’t need to drive for the services they need,” Dr. Thomas adds. “I’ve known since I walked in the door that Tri-State’s #1 priority is the community and getting people back to their health so they can enjoy their life to the fullest. The Da Vinci is just another step in Tri-State’s commitment to best serving the community.”
If you need surgery, whether for a common or complex condition, Tri-State Surgery and the Da Vinci Surgical System can help you heal today so you can begin to thrive tomorrow.
