Tri-State Memorial Hospital began giving the Pfizer-BioNTech (Pfizer) COVID-19 vaccine to youth 12 and older beginning May 13, 2021, following a media release from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

“Today, I adopted CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices’ recommendation that endorsed the safety and effectiveness of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine and its use in 12-through 15-year old adolescents,” stated in a CDC Director Statement released May 12, 2021. “CDC now recommends that this vaccine be used among this population, and providers may begin vaccinating them right away.”

At Tri-State Memorial Hospital, all youth 12 and older are welcome to receive the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine.
Guidelines for obtaining the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine are as follows:

• The parent(s) and/or guardian(s) must accompany a minor for a COVID-19 vaccine.
• The parent(s) and/or guardian(s) must give consent for a minor to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. Consent can be given verbally at the time of vaccine administration or over the phone.

Tri-State Memorial Hospital is still offering the Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen COVID-19 vaccine and the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine to those 18 years and older.
